Governed Intelligence Architecture

A proposed architectural foundation for trustworthy AI systems.

Modern AI has advanced rapidly in capability, but the surrounding architecture has evolved far more slowly.

Governed Intelligence Architecture (GIAS) proposes a reference architecture for intelligent systems that must operate responsibly in real-world environments.

Rather than describing a specific product, GIAS defines the architectural concepts, responsibilities, and relationships that enable trustworthy intelligent systems regardless of the underlying AI model.

Architectural thesis

Models perform inference. They do not own users. They do not own memory. They do not define trust. They do not determine authority. GIAS begins from a simple premise: governed intelligence requires identity, memory, context, and governance to exist above the model.

Why this architecture exists

The current AI stack was not designed for governed intelligence.

Identity Ownership

The user or organization must remain the root authority. Identity, memory, persona, and rights cannot be collapsed into the model provider.

Governance Authority

Policy is not a prompt. Authority must be explicit, versioned, auditable, and evaluated outside the model.

Execution Boundary

A model may propose. A governed system must authorize, execute, observe, and preserve evidence of what actually happened.

Forensic Replay

Trust requires reconstructable evidence. Every consequential decision should be explainable after the fact.

GIAS defines the architecture. Rita implements it. Palladium operationalizes it.

GIAS establishes the architectural vocabulary for governed intelligence. Rita is Ananke's reference implementation of that specification. Palladium turns Rita into an operational control plane, while Origin applies governed identity, memory, persona, and rights to the individual.
